Brooklyn Surfer | Founder Michael Green | One hot day during the summer of 81', while I was playing basketball in Brooklyn, a skinny blond kid came racing down on a plastic board with roller skate wheels. Dazed by the sight, I watch him race to the end of the block and spin out. The next day after school I went to his house. "I was skateboarding," he explained, "The closest thing to surfing I could find on the East Coast." I took it for a spin and was instantly hooked. There was an instant feeling of freedom. Freedom from all the rules and ideals the organized world forced on me. Skateboarding evolved into snowboarding, and this feeling of freedom was exemplified. But it wasn't till my career as a graphic designer took me to SoCal during the summer of 02', did I catch my 1st wave. For 4 months I lived and breathed surf culture , while designing for surf companies. Surfing 3 times a day, and ahh those fish tacos. I was surrounded by people like myself, searching for freedom from this modern institution. Now back in Brooklyn, with my 10' longboard on the roof of my old 86' beamer, I can sense that same vibe of freedom. Only this time its more intense. Probably because this is my home, and I have never seen it the way I see it now. So I create Brooklyn Surfer to share and pave a way for other explorers of life. Enjoy the ride!
