Frisia Museum

In het Noord-Hollandse dorp Spanbroek (bij Hoorn) bevindt zich sinds februari 1997 het Frisia Museum. Dit betrekkelijk nieuwe museum onderscheidt zich van alle andere musea in Nederland door de bijzondere collectie. De collectie van het Frisia Museum heeft als basis het Magisch Realisme, een kunststroming die in de jaren dertig van deze eeuw in Nederland hoogtij vierde. Temidden van een kunstwereld waarin steeds abstracter en expressiever geschilderd werd, grepen de magisch realisten juist terug op het realisme. Zij creëerden in hun voorstellingen een nieuwe, eigen werkelijkheid. Door de combinatie van wel en niet bestaande elementen, door het spel van licht en kleur en door de technisch perfecte afwerking maakten zij geheimzinnige, soms dreigende schilderijen. De voorstellingen zijn dikwijls wel mogelijk, maar niet waarschijnlijk.
