Charnos

Charnos | For nearly 50 years Charnos has created beautifully crafted undergarments and in that time we have talked to women about what they demand from their lingerie – it’s simple, you want feminine collections that enhance your shape and make you feel gorgeous. Charnos was founded in 1935 by Charles Noskwith as a hosiery company. Throughout the 1950s Charnos became known as an innovator of new ideas in the hosiery industry and as pioneers of stretch yarns in the UK. Charnos was responsible for many firsts including being the first British Company to market ‘Stretch Stockings’ and ‘Run Resist’ stockings. In 1958, Charnos Lingerie was created to compliment the already successful hosiery brand. Throughout the 1960s the Charnos brand grew to such an extent that a larger and more technologically advanced factory had to be opened. Throughout the 1970s Charnos led the field in innovation and design, this time in lingerie. As the first British Company to introduce anti-static nylon into the market, Charnos was responsible for the most important breakthrough in lingerie since nylon took over from silk. In design Charnos was synonymous with quality and femininity, introducing a luxurious European feel and style to the British market. 1999 saw the most high profile technical innovation for Charnos to date with the launch of BIOFORM. Designed in conjunction with appliance inventors this material was, quite literally, to change the shape of lingerie for a whole generation of women. In 2002 the Charnos lingerie brand was bought by the Premoda Group. Today, in 2006, the Charnos name is still a leading light in the lingerie world, creating shape-enhancing, cleverly fitted lingerie that is functional yet still elegant, sophisticated, sensual and feminine.
