Anton Heunis is a South African born, Madrid based designer. He graduated from the University of Stellenbosch, South Africa, with a Bachelor degree in fine arts. During this time he also trained as a gold- and silversmith. In 1998 he won the American-Swiss New Designer award. This led to numerous national exhibitions and an invitation to do his MA at the Academy of Fine Arts in Munich, Germany. In June 2001, he was appointed as an in-house designer for Erickson Beamon, London, where he was responsible for the precious and semi-precious design sections. During this time he also worked on collections for designers such as Roberto Cavalli, Emanuel Ungaro, Anna Mollinari, Elspeth Gibson, Matthew Williamson, Anna Sui, and Tim van Steenbergen.Having been trained as a traditional goldsmith, Anton has developed his style by combining traditional and costume jewellery techniques. His first own label collection was presented at London Fashion Week in February 2004, where it was received with high aclaim from, both press and buyers alike.''My collections are inspired by my every day life and the impressions around me. It does not matter if I am in the metro or in the Museo del Prado, both contain a beauty that inspires me to create. I like my pieces to have an element of fun about them. I have always been drawn to the nostalgic and the fantastic, be it porcelain painting, kitsch collectables or baroque art. I like to make beautiful objects that ,when worn, makes the wearer identify her/himself with that beauty.'' Being a perfectionist, he insists on checking every single piece personally. This ensures the quality of the product and keeps it from becoming a mass produced object. His work has drawn attention to, and appeared in fashion publications, such as Vogue UK, Vogue Italia, Vogue España, Elle España, Elle Deutschland, Elle UK and Harpers and Queen. He currently has a stockist list streching five continents and his collections are represented in well known Department Stores and boutiques such as Liberty (London), Harvey Nichols (UK), House of Fraser (UK), Le Printemps (Paris), Calypso (New York), Lane Crawford (Hong Kong), On Pedder (Singapore, Taiwan), Delitto e Castigo (Madrid), Podium (Moscow), Tomorrowland (Japan).
