Roger & Gallet | Jean Marie Farina inherits the secret Eau de Cologne formula, arrives in Paris and opens a shop as a perfumer on Rue Saint Honor. The "Jean Marie Farina" Eau de Cologne is an immediate success. Napoleon discovers its benefits and uses it so often that it becomes the "Imperial Eau de Cologne". Jean Marie Farina's renown spreads far and wide and he becomes the appointed supplier of the European Courts, allowing him to extend his creations to cosmetics and toiletry accessories with a catalogue of over 850 articles. On April 10, 1862, Armand Roger and Charles Gallet join their names to give the house the name it still bears Roger & Gallet. Thus begins a long series of innovations including rice powder as pencils: black for eyebrows, red for lips, and even blue for veins! The catalogue offers an incredible variety of Eaux de Cologne, Eaux de Toilette and concentrated Perfumes, this included the vital fashion accessory of the time : perfume extracts for handkerchiefs. The Jean Marie Farina Eau de Cologne remains the favorite fragrance of the crowned heads with famous consumers such as the Duke of Orleans, the King of Prussia and the King of England.
