aroma M

aroma M's story is as tantalizing and unique as its scent collection. The company was started in 1995 by Maria McElroy, an American-born painter who transferred her color- and texture- blending talents to the art of fragrance blending. To immerse herself in the world of scent, Maria first studied aromatherapy and then spent seven years in Japan, not only becoming an expert in essential oils and incense, but also learning Ikebana (flower arranging), Koto (Japanese harp), Shiatsu, the Japanese tea ceremony, and tenets of Zen Buddhism. These experiences, not to mention a personal love story with a Japanese man who became Maria's husband inspired the blossoming of aroma M.
Maria's aroma M scents are created with the subtle (never overpowering) sensibility of Japanese incense blend in mind. In addition, armed with aromatherapy background, Maria ensures that her fragrances are not only beguiling, but help alleviate daily stress and promote well-being. As natural as possible without losing their diffusing power, they are made with the finest essential oils.
What to wear with these mysteriously soft-spoken but memorably beautiful fragrances that are simultaneously contemplative and stimulating? A rustling silk kimono or an obi with a full, swirling skirt wouldn't hurt, nor would the classic scarlet lips and black-rimmed eyes of the made-up Geisha face, partially hidden by a wafting fan. But it's a tribute to aroma M's cross-cultural fluency that these scents also work like a charm with the easygoing style of contemporary ponchos and carpenter's pants, and the natural, well-scrubbed face of Western beauty.
Each of the three fragrances in the Geisha line is available in: a liquid-spray eau de parfum a crme encased in glass and capped with a copper chrysanthemum, a flower seeped in Geisha lore scented rice-starch dusting powder, accompanied by an overhanging marabou puff, packaged in an elegant handmade paper box.
