René Lezard

The fashion company with the French name René Lezard was founded in 1978 by Thomas Schaefer (*1952) in Schwarzach near Würzburg in Germany. Initially Schaefer's company focused on men's fashion. In 1986 Gunter Eschemann (*1955) became co-owner of the company, launching a ladies' and accessories line with its own design department under the directorship of Cornelia Schütz (*1950). René Lezard was one of the first labels to open a flagship store on West Broadway in New York's Soho district in 1997. Further stores in urban centres around the globe followed. The success of René Lezard is based on a style that is best described as "timelessly modern". René Lezard has become one of the most successful German fashion names over the past few years. Thanks to its feel for latest trends and at the same time retaining its own individual distinctive styling, Rene Lezard is on its way to becoming a leader in the world fashion market. The label is sold in all major US department stores (including Bergdorf Goodman, Saks 5th Ave., etc.). It is also the first German fashion label to open its own successful shop in the trendy New York Soho district.
