Dominic Bellissimo | North America’s most recognized shearling designer has decidedly classified his looks into themes for 2005. I have taken my inspiration from my customers, the global market and just from people-watching says Bellissimo. On my travels to Europe, the U.S. and even here in Toronto, I am always motivated by how people put themselves together. The continuity of well-designed identifiable shearling outerwear for men and women is still Bellissimo’s trademark. For the 2005 season, he has developed his collection in six distinct categories:
VOGUE: This grouping favours streamlined silhouettes with luxurious fur trims and crisp details. Sigaro Tan suede tones blend with Indigo wool, a dyed tweed pattern on the wool side and gray-sage Mood are new colour offerings in this group.
LADY: A preoccupation with femininity including soft ruffles, cinched waists and full length coats with voluminous sweeps are very flirty especially done in bright India Pink or soft Dawn Blue snakeskin pattern.
BAROQUE: Embellishment is the key word for this group. It incorporates bejeweled beadwork in sparkly bronze and ruby tones. Full on animal skins in dyed print leopard with fox fur trimmings add another layer of dazzle. Rich purple glazed skins are set off with burnished tones of brown, camel and tan mottled interior, and deep Garnet Red is another important colour in Baroque.
FUTURE; this group gives a modernist nod to the Eighties. With graphic shapes and leather-trimmed borders, Future offers minimalist Kimono silhouettes and bold details such as clean square shaped silver closures. Key colours are Acid Green and Black.
ATHLETIC; a mixture of technical mesh fabrics with shearling allow this group to have a polished sportif look. Hi-tech coloured zippers add a fun element to the practical philosophy of the Athletic theme.
CLASSIC; combines the allure of Equestrian riding with the practicality of everyday wear. Items in this group have proven themselves over and over and are the foundation of the Dominic Bellissimo shearling collection. Neutral earth tones dominate with a hint of purple and black. Jackets with hoods, duffle styles, and stadium jackets are always a popular choice.
