The first hundred pairs, which are easy to spot because they were poorly made up on single needle machines were distributed to family, friends and clients. Without any advertising or marketing whatsoever, random requests came from shops in Sweden, UK, Italy and Canada. The collection soon developed into a five-pocket jeans line, a male and female fashion line and accessories. The clothing became very popular, both in shops and media around the world, mainly due to its distinctive design and interesting brand concept. In 2000 ACNE Jeans, headlined by Jonny Johansson and Ann-Sofie Back, won Swedish Elle's prize for the Designer of the Year.
