Hardy Amies was formed as a couture house along classic French lines, with twice -yearly collections shown at the house and very full workrooms with highly skilled dressmakers and tailors. In the 1950's, like his great French contemporary Christian Dior, Sir Hardy began to establish international links through licensing and retail arrangements all over the world, and the Amies brand began to be recognised as an international symbol for cool, classic English taste.
