Cacharel

Cacharel | Founded in 1962 in Nîmes by the then 30 year old Jean Bousquet, the company, now internationally known, carries the name of a bird from Camargue (a region of southern France). A rarity nowadays, Cacharel remains a privately owned company while enjoying international success... Since the beginning of Cacharel Jean Bousquet's aim was to create a strong communication identity for creative iconic products with high fashion value. This was achieved through an extremely coherent global advertising campaign which was unique in its field at the time of its creation. Jean Bousquet was one of the first to develop this international brand image. The talent of photographer Sarah Moon was linked to Cacharel to form a powerful visual identity of the product. Jean Bousquet and Cacharel thus brought forward the signature products of the brand : the shirt for women, the Liberty and crepon fabrics quickly attained cult status worldwide, must haves in ready to wear in their time these best sellers are today being reinvented with equal success. Clements Ribeiro (Suzanne Clements - Inacio Ribeiro) are the shining star duo of the British Fashion revival. Eclectic and innovative, their style is based on a broad varied colour palette, a mix of prints and textures. Their affiliation with Cacharel's spirit is obvious ; who could be more suited to the breezy accessible fashion of Cacharel than this couple, whose work modernizes feminine archetypes and completely reinvents the label. Clements Ribeiro concentrate on the brand's heritage, engendering a revitalized style that is more expressive and more contemporary, yet in complete harmony with the creative energy that was the impetus behind Cacharel at its beginnings. Breezy, accessible fashion has been the Cacharel trademark since 1962. Founded in Nimes by designer Jean Bousquet and named for a bird found in his native Camargue, the line first achieved recognition for its Liberty-print shirts. Prior to launching Cacharel, Bousquet worked at a men's tailoring shop, and as a designer and cutter. Based on his experience in these roles, he recognized the need women had for a shirt that was as versatile and easy to wear as a man's. The Cacharel shirt went on to become a bestseller, and established the company's reputation for youthful styles. In 2000, the London-based husband-and-wife design team Clements Ribeiro were hired as head designers, and under their influence, the line has taken on a naïf, bohemian sensibility.
