A brand with a story……..

Some time ago, 2008, I found myself thinking: Why is good knitwear so hard to find, usually over-priced, and often a bit dull? A nice warm sweater, a simple cool
cardigan to wear over a dress or a smart-yet-casual top to wear to work…
how hard can it be? And another thing: how come everything only comes in
grey, grey, grey and blue? I started to dream of launching my own brand.

One morning I woke up and decided to do it – I set out to develop my own brand
of knitwear. It would offer the kind of styles that my friends and I want to wear
every day: not high-fashion catwalk stuff, but great basic knitwear to combine
into a fashionable outfit. Sweaters, vests, cardigans, maybe a dress, perhaps a
nice big scarf. Nothing more, nothing less.

Each style would come in a wide range of colours and in great qualities.
Importantly, the price would be right too. I could just see women like myself
wearing this every day – maybe even going back to get a favourite style in
another colour. Or in my case… maybe even two!

Thanks to my experience and contacts in the fashion industry, I already had the
ingredients I needed to take the first step. As well as knowing what I wanted, I
knew the needs and concerns of retailers too: a clear offer of well-priced, great
quality styles with a good margin.

Friends and family are very important to me, so it’s only natural that they
play an important role in the brand. My own life and adventures are closely-knit
with theirs. That’s where the name of the brand comes from: the Anecdotes that
we share about our lives define who we are.I’m sure every woman will understand
what I mean by Anecdotes; it’s the things that happen to us, the stories we share
with our friends and family. Every ANECDOTE collection is based on one of such
stories. Snap-shots of these anecdotes are hidden in the garments, visible on
hang-tags, packaging and our bags.

I add jersey , voile cottons and linnen to make a more complete collection.

Now a few years later, ANECDOTE is sold in over 40 shops in the Netherlands
and is introduced in Belgium and Germany. Now we work out of a great
office/showroom at the Amsterdam cannals. Every ANECDOTE collection still
has there own story.

Knitwear van goede kwaliteit, voor een redelijke prijs en in trendy kleuren. Dat is wat de designer Jet van Beuningen de klanten van haar label Anecdote wil bieden. De ontwerpster startte in 2008 met haar eigen merk en komt nu met haar eerste collectie.

De naam Anecdote verwijst naar kleine verhalen die we vertellen aan familie en vrienden. In de kledingstukken van het label zijn dan ook tekstflarden verwerkt. Maar er is geen reden om nu te denken dat je met Anecdote in een outfit vol logo’s en schreeuwerige opdrukken loopt. De basic kledingstukken zijn monochroom, casual maar netjes en uitgevoerd in rustige kleurtinten.
