Robert Cary-Williams

Robert Cary-Williams is one of the UK's leading and most challenging fashion designers. A determinedly bold experimenter, Cary-Williams' designs have all the delicate beauty of vintage couture, with military and temporal influences drawn from a period in the army and his agricultural childhood. As well as winning 'New Generation Sponsorship' from the British Fashion Council several times, Robert Cary-Williams has also been invited to show his work and to lecture in high profile exhibitions, including 'Fashion in Motion' at the V&A. Working predominantly with a simple colour palette, Cary-Williams' designs ooze with intelligence and attitude. Inspired by Jackson Pollock, Francis Bacon and Damien Hurst, he exploits an exciting tension between deconstructed cutting and fragile fabrics. Each Cary-Williams piece tells a tale. His unique creations are sculpted or finished with fireworks, gunshots, ice, paint, diamonds and extreme heat. Luxurious silks, soft leathers and the most delicate dresses are literally shredded, pummelled and even shot at to create asymetrical, jagged or embelished shapes with an end result described by his devotees as "beautiful, with an undercurrent of violence - with structure and wearability."
