Dries van Noten
Dries Van Noten is a designer who works intuitively; he knows what men and women with active lives and individual style want. He is passionate about both the design process and the ultimate product and is fueled by his artistic sensibility and a discerning eye for detail. Self-assured and unassuming, Dries Van Noten is a man completely without artifice, as are his clothes. The look is natural, sophisticated and inherently sexy. Born in Antwerp in 1958, the designer attended te renowned Antwerp Academy and, as a student, worked freelance for belgian and Italian labels. In 1985 he launched his own line and, a year later, received both international acclaim and commercial succes when he presented his men's collection in London along with the "Antwerp Six". Van Noten's flagship store, Het modepaleis, opened in Antwerp in 1989. The men's, women's and accessory collections are displayed on two floors of this gracious 19th century building. Van Noten began showing his men's collection on the Paris runway in 1991, following two years later with his women's collection.
Dries Van Noten plays an intrinsic role in the modern world of global fashion with showrooms in Milan and Paris, press offices in New York and an additional boutique in Hong Kong. the designer is known for his innovative use of exclusive fabrics and painterly use of colour, based on a singular vocabulary of elements. Opposites attract and inetract, a synchrony of nuanced colour, texture and pattern evolves. Weightless layers celebrate pure form and sensuality with an artful insouriance.
Van Noten's primary business is located in his hometown of Antwerp where he also resides. The company is financially independent and sell to over 400 stores worldwide; prominent clients include Barney's in New York, harvey Nichols in London, Le Bon March in Paris, Joyce in Hong Kong and Isetan in Tokyo.
