Behnaz Sarafpour | Iranian-born designer Behnaz Sarafpour began climbing the fashion ladder early, working for Anne Klein before graduating from Parsons School of Design. Prior to breaking out on her own, Sarafpour designed for Isaac Mizrahi, and Barneys' private label. After Anna Wintour of Vogue predicted that Sarafpour was poised to become the next big thing, fashionistas everywhere took notice of the collections that effortlessly brought romanticism to the modern age. Known for her sweet lacework and slightly ethereal designs, Sarafpour surprised everybody with her more aggressively sexy Spring 2004 line. As for becoming the next big thing, Sarafpour has already captured the ultimate pop culture homage—dressing a faux Sarah Jessica Parker for 2003's Sex and the City-themed Barney's Christmas window. Behnaz Sarafpour began her design career at Parsons School of Design where she was awarded the prestigious Golden Thimble Award. After graduation, Sarafpour worked with some of today’s most respected names in the fashion industry, including Isaac Mizrahi, Narciso Rodriguez and Richard Tyler. She also spent time as designer of the Barneys New York Collection. Behnaz Sarafpour launched her first eponymous collection with a presentation for the fall 2001 season. In February of 2002, she produced her first runway show, sponsored by the premier website in fashion, Style.com. The following season, Sarafpour was sponsored by Moët & Chandon and in 2004, Tiffany & Co. sponsored her spring 2005 show. Held at the Fifth Avenue landmark, Sarafpour is the only designer to have presented a fashion collection at the renowned jewelry institution. Sarafpour’s fall 2005 show was sponsored by HP (Hewlett Packard). Sarafpour’s close relationship with the CFDA began in 2002 when she was nominated for the Swarovski’s Perry Ellis award for ready-to-wear. More nominations followed in 2003 and 2005. 2004 marked a monumental year for the designer as she became a member of the prestigious CFDA organization and was selected as a finalist of the first VOGUE/CFDA Fashion Fund. Sarafpour also launched her premiere holiday collection in fall of 2005. Behnaz Sarafpour has proven her place among the top emerging talents in American fashion. Her skill for strong clean lines and chic polished silhouettes has gained her the following of young Hollywood stars including Claire Danes, Selma Blair, Anne Hathaway and Rachel McAdams.
