Dutch Design Events
Dutch Design Events | In 2005, New York's most prestigious museums, retail stores and exhibition spaces hosted an unprecedented roster of Dutch design projects, encompassing the various disciplines of fashion, product, interiors and architecture. The Cooper-Hewitt National Design Museum, Museum at Fashion Institute of Technology, Museum of Arts and Design, International Contemporary Furniture Fair, Moss, and Olympus Fashion Week featured work by the world's leading and emerging Dutch designers. Exhibitions by Tord Boontje, Viktor and Rolf, Hella Jongerius, Claudy Jongstra, Droog Design, Dutch Fashion Foundation, and many more exemplified the best of Dutch design. Orange Alert: Dutch Design inNew York served as an official campaign to highlight what shaped up to be an exciting, landmark year. For the first time, all the participating venues joined together with one goal: to celebrate the work and creative process of talented Dutch designers. It was the culmination of many years of nurturing and supporting this talent by the Consulate General of the Netherlands in New York. A milestone occurred ten years ago, when the Museum of Modern Art introduced the highly successful Dutch Design Café. Since then, Dutch designers have enjoyed high profile exhibitions throughout the United States, but never before did we see such a concentrated and unparalleled list of events. Kicked-off on January 18, 2005 under the auspicies of Ambassador and Mrs. Boudewijn J. van Eenennaam at Drive-In Studios in New York, and followed by a wide array of events and projects, press attention for Orange Alert and upcoming Dutch design projects has been wonderful, with write-ups in essential media outlets such as Style.com, Time Out New York, New York Times, Wireimage, DWR newsletter, Washington Post, The Guardian, House & Garden, Hint Magazine, multiple pages at Designvormgeving.nl, as well as Mediamatic, Dutch newspaper De Telegraaf, a dedication as “site of the month" on House of Design, and news items on Dutch television, including NOVA and RTL news with Max Westerman. As a result of the wide array of events and the great attention it received in 2005, there has been a great amount of interest in Orange Alert Dutch Design. Additional projects and events have been implemented and kick-started in New York and venues across the United States. In 2006 the Orange Alert Dutch Design web site will therefore become a nationwide information source that will focus on events across the country, with projects lined up in Washington DC, Philadelphia, Chicago, Los Angeles and other cities. We are truly proud of, and grateful to all the participating designers, organizations, sponsors and individuals that have contributed to Orange Alert Dutch Design. Be sure to visit www.dutchdesignevents.com to get information about all the events and to be kept up-to-date about Orange Alert Dutch Design developments in 2006 and beyond.
