Woollen Facts
Wool is a general term that include merino, cashmere and lambswool, just to name a few. It is a delicate and natural material that clean itself to some extent, it is relatively stain resistant and easy to care for. It does not need as frequent washing as cotton does. Nevertheless, it requires special care.
Wool garments do not have to be washed between each wear, simply hang it out in fresh air or in a damp bathroom to remove any odors - especially fog and morning dew bring wonders for your woolen clothes.
When a woolen garment require a round with water and soap you should wash it by hand or with a special wool program on your washing machine. It is essential to use a mild detergent specifically produced for wool, such as the Wool & Cashmere Shampoo by The Laundress. Ordinary detergent removes the natural fat in wool, also known as lanolin, which gives wool many of its good characteristics.
Wash your woolen garments by hand in cold or lukewarm water with a small amount of detergent and let it soak for a few minutes. Rinse well with water at the same temperature. Roll the garment in a towel and try squeezing most of the water out. Leave to dry flat.
Do you prefer using the washing machine? Use your delicate wool wash program, a small amount of the Wool & Cashmere Shampoo by The Laundress and preferably tuck each item in a mesh-bag.
To maintain the look of your woven woolen garments we suggest that you brush them with a special brush, such as Cashmere Brush by The Laundress. Unfortunately, pilling cannot be prevented - remove it with the Sweater Stone by The Laundress or the electric wool remover from Repeat.
Your woolen garments should be stored folded – if you keep them on a hanger you can risk that the garment will lose its shape.
