Madeleine Vionnet - The Madeleine Vionnet name is universal - Discover the most innovative French designer and the luxury creations of the brand : fashion, ties, leather goods, fragrances and a breathtaking scarf collection. WHO had heard of Maurizio Pecoraro before his show in Milan on Friday? Be honest. Well, the previously little-known designer has found himself the subject of increased interest, since being chosen as the man to head up the house of Vionnet when it reopens in July. All eyes were on the new collection he showed for his own label - and happily, thanks to an obvious knack for feminine tailoring, they seemed to like what they saw. Proving his claim that "a collection doesn't have to comprise evening gowns to be beautiful", he presented gorgeous wool tweed coats in an earthy but pretty palette of pale almond, dove-grey and dusty rose. Before his show, Pecoraro confided that he had based his collection on the idea of a London-based aristocratic girl who is part of the international jet-set, though "not in that tacky way". Far from tacky, the collection he showed before the weekend included full-skirts and delicate empire-line chiffon tops that were lightly layered and appliqud with jewelled silk flowers. Flimsy knits casually fell off one shoulder and he gave his own version of next season's superluxe essential - a bulging fur hat. Trousers, either in tailored tweed or liquid satin, were tucked into wrinkled cream leather ankle boots or stopped at mid-calf to show off iridescent opaque tights - subtly luxurious proof that we can expect to be seeing and hearing more of Pecoraro and Vionnet in the future.
